Sliding Wall by Welter Wall

The Sliding Wall by Welter Wall features a mechanisms that allow it to close with a breathtakingly smooth sliding motion. This wall can be used also as a hidden door to a private place. The moving wall is shaped like a C, and so fits around the adjacent wall seamlessly, concealing its inner workings from view. Defendius Door Chain

Yesterday was 1 April ( April Fools’ Day ), and this door chain concept designed by Artemy Lebedev fell into the category of a good joke. I don’t like the April Fools’ Day, but this door chair is really funny, and appropriate for a day like this. The only problem with something like this might be …if you have a visitor you might have a dialog like this : “I’ll be right there, hold on!“, after 2 minutes … “Just one more minute, I’ve almost got it!“, because the chain is long enough to reach the far end of the maze.

Patino Furniture that can Save Space in your Balcony

There were numerous space saving designs here on Freshome, but this time here is something that we didn’t covered until now. Designer Sandy Lam created a design that is not only useful because it saves space, it is also completely hidden with zero space invasion while not in use. The purpose of this design is to increase the functionality of balconies and to enhance the concrete city look. This system will help to maximize condo living space because residents can extend their indoor living into the outdoor. Even when fully assembled, the hide-away system is a minimalist lover’s delight. The design is also flexible to its owner. If you were to move away, you can take the hide-away furniture with you and place it in the next balcony or living room. How To Demolish A Skyscraper One Floor At A Time

What you are going to see in this post, is one of those rare things in life that leaves you truly speechless, and one more reason to say that technology in these days has no limits. When it comes to tearing down buildings, I’m pretty sure that you think at an implosion ( BTW - here is a cool one ), but today you’ll see a new demolition method that starts on the bottom floor. The process is called daruma-otoshi after a Japanese game that makes players take the bottom parts of a column using a hammer without disturbing the rest of the parts above.

Japanese construction firm Kajima Corporation is using this innovative new skyscraper demolition method to dismantle a pair of old company buildings in Tokyo. Compared to blowing it up, this method saves time and space, pollutes the air less, makes material recycling easier, I think that in big cities this method would be very useful and it’s obviously a lot less dusty than a traditional demo.

How do they do it ?

First they replace the support pillars at ground level with computer-controlled metal columns. Then, a crew carefully demolishes the entire floor by hand, leaving the structure resting on the mechanical pillars, which then go down slowly until the next floor is at ground level. They replace the support pillars again with the mechanical ones, destroy that floor, and repeat the operation until they get rid of all the floors.

This makes it look as if the building is shrinking in front of you, or being swallowed by the street. According to the company, this method greatly reduces the environmental impact of the demolition, as well as the time. Kajima says that it speeds up the task by 20%, while making it easier to separate materials for recycling, as well as reducing the amount of products released into the air.
